QES Golden Jubilee Celebration, November 2004

Message from QESAAUSA President

January 9, 2004.

Dear Members:

Lots of good memories were still fresh in my mind when I left our alma mater, Queen Elizabeth School, as a student 44 years ago. As reflected in Dr. David Wong’s (Tai Wai - Chairperson of QESOSA) message in the QES Golden Jubilee Pocket calendar, I still remember the many times we walked up the slope on Sai Yee Street to reach the main building. As we approached the building, the very first object that we could see was the lush green soccer field to the right of the building. Who could ever forget all the teachers who patiently nurtured us and taught us the lifelong lessons that have so importantly influenced us into becoming who we are now? I am sure almost every student, past and present, has a memory or two that stands out in their mind. During my QES years, the annual Music Festival Competition for all the students and professional musicians for the entire HK was held at our school hall because of its outstanding acoustics. These were the moments that I will never forget. Being a music lover, whenever I had a chance I would try to find excuses to stay after class to sneak into the hall to listen to the music competitions going on.

How time flies and how things have changed!! –  In 1954 QES started out as a secondary school, sharing the same school site with Kings’ College on Bonham Road, before moving to the brand new school building on Sai Yee Street.  Fifty years later it has branched out into four more schools (QESOSA Schools- Kindergarten, 2 Primary, and 1 secondary).

On behalf of QESAAUSA’s board of directors, it is our sincerest hope that you can join us to go back to HK to celebrate the Golden Jubilee Year of Queen Elizabeth School together. Don’t miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity. Not only will it be a chance to pay tribute to the teachers of our school, it will be a time to meet old teachers of past and present, meeting  classmates, and reuniting with schoolmates from all four corners of the world.  Most importantly, it will be a time to reminisce of the nostalgic past.

There will be a full program of activities for us to enjoy. Just to name a few – Academic seminars conducted by outstanding alumni, tour of all the schools, basketball matches, golfing for charity, taking a QESOSA sponsored side trip to neighboring countries, and the main event of the trip will be the Golden Jubilee Celebration Dinner which will be held on November 28, 2004.

Mark your calendars and join us in celebration. Live up to the spirit of QES by signing up to attend the QES Golden Jubilee Celebration event in the later part of November, 2004.  More information and registration.Click here.

Last but not least, our HKQESOSA has prepared a lovely and very informative pocket QESGJC Calendar. We have obtained enough copies and will be mailing one to every QESAAUSA member.  For information, please contact Louisa Leung (click here to contact her by email).
